I’m not talking about all the things or people and situations. There’s not enough paper in the world to capture a list of all the things that can dampen your spirit and lead you to depressive thoughts and feelings. I’m talking about the where in your mind and body that sadness lives.

When you’re feeling the effects of sorrow, heartache, grief, or regret, they dwell in your body. Sure, the thoughts spin around in your head like an out-of-control tape-player, but you feel it in your body.

As a Board Certified Hypnotherapist and Stress Coach, I’ve worked with hundreds of clients across the nation. It’s safe to say that 90+ percent of my clients come from trauma, abuse, grief or some other sad place. In the last few years, many more reached out to me because they struggle in toxic work environments and they need a path forward.

This is the reason many of my articles address these toxic places. The self-confidence-busting sadness dumped on them by weak managers slowly disintegrates the happiness my clients once experienced.

Going back to the earlier question about where sadness lives, we need to look at where it starts. Here’s another statistic: 100% of my clients that seek help to get past sadness carried fear, false beliefs or misperceptions in their subconscious for years. The underlying troublemakers hold you back in life. They later show up to cause difficulties in your body.

They are so relaxed that the feeling of the fears, stress and sadness is easy to detect. The clients are able to tell me exactly where in their body they feel the effects of the things they carried with them for years.

Most often, they tell me they feel it in their chest or stomach. At other times, it could be a hand or an arm. There’s always a reason that’s personal to their experiences.

We then know where it is, and through subconscious coaching, we then find what it was and what caused it. Then, before we get rid of it by minimizing the power it had over you.

If a negative thought or belief doesn’t serve you, there’s no reason to carry it around and let it continue to hold you back.

It’s an amazing thing to watch a person who carried the results of someone else’s unkindness. The client releases it because the other person no longer has power over them.

Through subconscious coaching, there are a series of key issues to address and we work through them together. When we remove the road bumps in your life, we can start pursuing goals and creating action steps to get there.

New Clients ask if a remote session works. Absolutely. Since the COVID period, I tested and adjusted my work and clients are getting significant results. The key is that we work as a team. The client just has to settle back and relax and let the work happen.

In many of my articles, I have addressed various ways to ease stress and engage in mindfulness meditation. When writing about it, I often hesitate.

Here’s why:

Mindful meditation is a process to change your focus and, over time, live calmer. When a person practices mindfulness consistently every day for weeks or more, they will see change. Mindfulness is a helpful resource for you for ongoing self-care. Yet, when you want to create change, you want to get tangible results quickly.

The work found in my Transformative Life Centering process can start making healthy shifts in the first session. I wish I counted every time a new client says, “Wow!!” at the end of their first session. This isn’t a sales pitch. It works well and quickly and goes back to the efficiency I talked about earlier.

This is the fastest way to create change than anything else I’ve seen.

<div

It was a Surprise to Me

When I sought self-care tools to help me in a toxic work environment years ago, I didn’t know how quick and safe this work is. I certainly had no plan to become Board Certified and do this work.

This work is also medication-free. You only have one liver in your body. Why fill it with chemicals from some drug that can negatively affect you? There’s a reason they do a liver function test to ensure there’s no damage. With that said, some diagnosed conditions require medications and it’s important to follow the guidance of your medical practitioner.

The work I do through subconscious coaching is an all-natural approach.

Being Our Best

In a world that sometimes seems like it ran amuck, we have a responsibility to ourselves, those we love and care for, and to be our best self.

When you choose to work with me, the work can do wonders for you.

Individuals often link procrastination and anxiety, with one causing the other. In this article, we’ll explore the psychology behind this connection and how you can overcome it.

[ez-toc]

Psychology of Procrastination

Procrastination is the act of delaying or putting off tasks that require action, often until the last minute. It’s a learned behavior that a variety of factors can trigger, such as fear, boredom, or lack of motivation.

Sometimes, procrastination can result from poor time-management skills or anxiety, which we will discuss in depth later.

The root of procrastination is sometimes a desire to avoid discomfort — discomfort that comes from engaging in tasks that might be challenging or unpleasant.

People procrastinate on tasks that are difficult, lengthy, or require a lot of effort. By putting off these tasks, we hope to achieve some emotional relief from the discomfort of tackling them.

On the surface, procrastination might seem like a harmless or even a clever way to manage stress. It can, however, create additional stresses and anxiety when we realize that we have to complete the task.

Procrastination can also lead to self-doubt, low self-esteem, and feelings of guilt that stem from putting off important work.

Psychology of Anxiety

Anxiety is a natural response to stress, but it becomes a problem when it affects our ability to function properly. Excessive and persistent worry, dread, or fear that interfere with daily activities or relationships often characterize anxiety disorders.

There are several types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and phobias. Although anxiety can debilitate, humans need it to help them cope with their environment.

Anxiety prompts us to take action or avoid dangerous situations by releasing hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones give us the energy and focus required to deal with the situation.

Connections Between Procrastination and Anxiety

There are many reasons that procrastination and anxiety go hand in hand. To begin with, avoidance behaviors often trigger anxiety.

When we procrastinate, the task at hand grows in our minds, and it becomes more daunting. This makes it hard to start or complete the task, leading to negative self-talk and stress.

Procrastination can lead to poor time-management skills, making it difficult to prioritize tasks effectively. This creates a vicious cycle of not getting things done, where anxiety and stress take over, leading to further delays and procrastination.

Anxiety may be the root cause of procrastination, particularly in individuals with anxiety disorders. Fear of failure or fear of making mistakes can lead to feelings of inadequacy.

It also makes starting tasks seem harder than they are. This fear may also result in a lack of motivation or focus, further exacerbating the problem.

Tips for Breaking the Procrastination-Anxiety Cycle

Breaking the procrastination-anxiety cycle requires a combination of self-reflection, time-management skills, and anxiety-management techniques. Here are some tips to help:

1. Identify the root cause of your procrastination. Try to understand your emotions and triggers to develop a plan.

2. Practice good time-management skills. Break large projects into smaller, manageable tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

3. Create a schedule or to-do list to make sure you stay on track with your tasks.

4. Practice self-care and anxiety-management techniques, such as meditation, deep breathing, physical exercise, or seek help from a trusted Hypnotist or Coach.

While most hypnotists are not medical practitioners and don’t address “anxiety”, they do provide support for stress management practices that can help you feel more in control and feel less anxious.

5. Celebrate your small wins by rewarding yourself along the way. This can help you stay motivated and energized.

Final Thoughts

Procrastination and anxiety are common problems that can lead to significant challenges in our personal and professional lives.

Understanding the relationship between procrastination and anxiety and implementing practical strategies to overcome them can help you break the cycle and achieve your goals.

Remember, it’s essential to take charge of your thoughts and emotions to manage your anxiety and get the job done.

The alarm sounds and you reach to turn it off. As you lie there for a moment you stretch and become aware of a new day. What’s the first thought beyond, “Oh I want to lay here a little longer”? Somewhere during that last stretch your mental radio came on.

What is it playing? Is it the sound of quiet peace that drives you to look forward to the day, or sadness, anger or perhaps a conglomeration of worries or fears? As humans we are emotional beings. While all of these feelings are possible, not all are healthy.

Moving forward a little bit you’re standing in front of the mirror. When you look at yourself what do you see? What message does the mental radio play? If you don’t look at yourself, why not? If you do, what do you focus on? Do you see things that please you about yourself or areas that make you critical? Do you look yourself in the eye and mentally talk to yourself, or do you avoid eye contact altogether? If you do project thoughts to yourself, what are you hearing? Are you encouraging and motivating with words for a happy and successful day, or thoughts of being overweight, tired, lonely, and sad or limiting thoughts about your confidence and capabilities?

The sounds you hear come from the mental radio. This is the radio that you tune each day. You control the tuning dial.

Let’s move forward. You’re now in your vehicle and on your way to work. In your mind how do you respond to the drivers around you? Do you let them go on or do you feel a sense of frustration? How many times do you look at the clock during your commute? Do you feel rushed? As the miles narrow between your current location and work, are there physical changes in how you feel?

Think back to that last stretch when you awoke; compare your physical body from then to now. Has your breathing changed? Is there a new tightness in your chest or stomach? What is the mental radio playing? As you get closer to work do you hear happy songs or thoughts, or do you replay and rehearse work conversations or disagreements?

Once again, you’re hearing the radio that you control. As the radio dial goes to a lower frequency each time you turn it to the left, the sound of negative self-talk comes in clearer, the sounds that make you believe false stories thrown at you throughout life, the lie that you are not enough, that you are flawed in some way. These are the messages that you find yourself listening to and believing songs like, “I’m expecting a bad day today”. Those things that you focus on are the conditions that you attract.

This radio is yours. You control it. When you turn the dial to the right, the positive frequency increases and your level of optimism naturally and automatically grows. Instead of expecting conflict you look forward to time with good people and good opportunities. That mental radio you control starts playing songs like, “I am enough and I look forward to a new day of life.”

While you don’t have a dial on your forehead you can control your frequency, the thoughts that increase your confidence, that make you want to look yourself in the eye in the morning, knowing you are a force for positive change in the lives of those around you.

Those things that you focus on are the conditions that you attract.

I have the privilege of watching clients arrive with decades of trauma and abuses and then make incredible shifts toward confidence, excitement for life and a unique sense of inner peace. There are a variety of concepts and processes we do together beyond the scope of this article. The first is a truth that changes their mindset.

As they recognize this truth, they become aware of their current physical state. Simply stated it is this: “Every thought creates a chemical reaction within your body”. When you focus on the negative, your body reacts accordingly, increasing stress, labors breathing in the chest and causes stomach discomfort. (Remember the physical recognition during the morning commute?) When you become aware of this truth and recognize your existence, you can take a proactive step to adjust the dial of your life. When you focus on the positive, your mind and body calms.

As emotional, energetic beings we attract the types of people, opportunities and health conditions from the frequency of our thoughts. You control that mental radio and what it plays. You choose how you feel and you determine your abilities to expect and attain successful living.

Let’s step back and look at the day. We’ve looked at rising, standing before the mirror and driving to work. This is a small snippet of the day, maybe only two to three hours. Look at the variety of thoughts and feelings you’ve experienced in this short time. Each of these day-to-day activities and how your feel tell a lot about your life. In future articles, we’ll look closer at these.

Every thought creates a chemical reaction within your body.

For now, I challenge you starting tomorrow to examine your own life during these same time periods. Be honest with yourself and recognize three simple things:

What do you think and feel?

How do you treat yourself before the mirror?

What physical and thought changes occur during your commute?

Then package all this together. Is this the “You” that you wanted when you were young? Your life might be challenging… or it could be awesome. Regardless, we all have positive paths we can walk if we decide today to change the frequency of our lives.

So, how do you turn that dial to the right to increase the positive? Earlier we talked about recognizing your condition. Another powerful tool is acknowledging those good things currently in existence in your life today. Let’s look at simple things.

The alarm sounded and you woke up. You have another day of life. Look at your health. Even if challenged in some way, what physical resources do you have? Can you see, hear or talk? You have the gift of communication for this day. It’s an opportunity to speak kindness into someone’s life or just to be quiet and listen. And if you choose not to do that, that’s your fault because you tune your own dial to the negative. You bring kindness into your own life by being kind to others.

Do you live in a home? Do have food and fresh drinking water? There are millions in this world who do not. What skills do you have? Are you artistic? What good people do you know? Each of these touch in some way the things to be grateful for. Gratefulness is a natural positive feeling. That’s another way to change your daily operating frequency.

So, tomorrow, take time to recognize those conditions in your life during those first few hours. Each is indicative of an alignment (or misalignment). Then, recognize the good resources you have and write them down. In a future article we’ll look at how that list can empower you and change your tune.

Please Participate in the Occupational Stress Survey

Your Inputs and Perspectives Can Make a Significant Difference

The Occupational Stress Survey focuses upon two main occupational areas: Law Enforcement / First Responders and members of the Military. While the military missions differ from the general category of first responders, they do in fact respond (from a global perspective) and their stress result have similarities.

All responses to the survey are COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS.

Why is this survey being done and what will be done with the results?

This survey is intended to identify issues that law enforcement, first responders and military professionals face in their day-to-day jobs and in their daily life. Each of these individuals provide significant value to the safety and well-being of our nation. America remains strong because of their service. It is an imperative that capable professionals are made aware of this potential avenue to provide service to those who serve. The effects of stress if left unchecked weaken individuals, families and our national preparedness and operational strength.

The results of this survey will help prepare a presentation before the National Guild of Hypnotists’ national conference in August 2016. This global organization is comprised of thousands of professionals who have significant training and expertise, helping everyday people with everyday issues. Mr. Anthony M. Davis has been selected as a faculty member to present on this critical topic. Once presented to the conference, practitioners will be in a better position to develop and offer stress management programs to people within their areas.

How long will the survey be available for responses?

This is intended to be a long-term project as world and political events, budgetary issues and environmental conditions can add to, or distract from various stress conditions. With that said, the initial data collection period will continue through May 15, 2016. Inputs from the respondents will provide the initial view necessary to support the August 2016 presentation. Responses after that point will continue to be valuable as they will give a broader view to support a follow-on phase to identify and implement resources to support first responders, military and transportation professionals.

Will the results of the survey be made public?

Yes. Sometime after the National Guild of Hypnotists’ national conference, the information will be made available at this site. An appropriate press release will go out indicating the publishing of the survey. To ensure you don’t miss the release, subscribe to this site so you will be appropriately informed of the progress. (See Subscription link at the right-hand side of this page)
